Meet Bethany Van Delft. Bethany has graced
many of Boston's fashion runways as a model extraordinaire over the
years. Everyone knows she's funny, but what some who know her through
the fashion industry might not know is that she is a comedienne on the
verge of greatness, or at least a sitcom deal. She'll be sharing her
model musings all through Boston Fashion Week.

Ethnic Mom
One time I booked a job
for an “ethnic mom”, meaning ‘non-white’ here in America (I’m pretty
sure in China white models get those gigs). My booker called the night
before to tell me what I needed to bring to the job. “The client wants
you to have flats, a mom sweater, a broken in handbag, and a 6 year old
boy who looks like you.” I told him “I only have the flats and the bag,
but if you told me sooner I could have run to the mall to get the
sweater and the boy.” Luckily, when I arrived at the job they had a mom
sweater and a boy for me, as it would have been hard to portray a mom
without either. I got into the sweater, put my boy on, and the
photographer got really excited. He said “Perfect! Your son looks just
like you!” I said “Oh, good! I’m glad he matches, because he’s not my
son.” He then really said “Are you sure?” I answered “Pretty sure.
Unless one of my exes is hiding something from me, such as that he can
get pregnant, and carry babies to term.”

The Marcel Proust Questionnaire is the
perfect tool to get to know a few of Boston's fashion industry
professionals. We've taken the liberty of adding a few fashion questions
into the mix for fun. We'll hear from different parts of the industry
each day this week.

“Having one central
location will really create an opportunity
to make this
a premiere event for the city,’’ Menino said.
“This is going to
be a truly professional event,
and our talent in
Boston deserves that.’’
